The twelve months of the calendar year are on this wheel in order, starting with January. It is useful whenever a plan, a game or a lesson needs a month chosen without anyone's favorite getting picked every time.
When to use it
Primary teachers use it to practice the order and spelling of the months. After each spin, ask which month comes before and after, how many days it has and which season it falls in where you live.
Birthday icebreakers get easier with it. Spin a month and anyone born in it stands up, shares a favorite birthday memory or leads the next activity.
Families and friend groups that keep postponing a trip, a reunion or a big project can let the wheel choose the month and then commit to it.
Ideas
- Seasonal story starter: write a short scene set in the month you spin, using at least two details about the weather.
- Holiday hunt: list every holiday or celebration you can think of that falls in the chosen month.
- Birthday bingo: each guest spins once, and whoever has a birthday in that month gets a small treat.
- Garden planner: look up which fruits and vegetables are in season during the selected month.
Variations
- Remove the months that are already booked so the wheel only offers dates that actually work for your group.
- Spin in remove the winner mode to plan a whole year of monthly activities, one month per spin, with none chosen twice.
- Add your own seasonal labels, like Early Spring or Late Summer, if you need broader choices.
Tips
- For a full-year rotation of chores or hosting duties, spin once per person and write the result on the family calendar.
- The share link lets everyone in a group chat see the same month list before the big spin.
- If one month suits everybody better, give it a higher weight with a label such as June*2 rather than removing the rest.
